Mood Board

In this post I will break down the elements I included in my mood board.

Once I had chosen my culture, and finalized my design, I created a larger mood board. My initial mood board, included in my initial research, was made to just give a brief visual overview of the culture I was researching. However, my final mood board was much more detailed.

My Initial Mood Board.

In this mood board, I included a large variety of images to represent many aspects of South African culture. From all tribal groups, to patterns, garments, beauty trends, accessories, architecture, landscape, nature, animals, famous faces and popular colours, this mood board really helped to visualize the thought process I went through when creating my final designs.

Furthermore, I added 3D elements to my mood board, to add texture, and give a more accurate visual representation to my design. I added; cow horns, feathers, felt, fabric scraps, wooden sticks, stamps, beads and paper pom poms.

I also added my face and body plans to this board, along with a brief explanation as to why I chose South Africa, and why I have included certain symbols in my design. This mood board was used to present my piece after my assessment, and helped my assessor really understand the process behind the design.
