Look 2 – Body Dysmorphia

In this post I have completed an evaluation of my second look, based on Body dysmorphia.

Unfortunately, as mentioned in my reflective journal, the images from the first shoot of this look were lost by the photographer, meaning I had to re-shoot. I am disappointed, as the first look was carried out mush more effectively, as this time I had no access to the props, studios, or costumes that I had used the first time round. Although when I compare these images to the first shoot I am disappointed, as I feel the first shoot was between, these images are still very effective.

Make-up

I feel the makeup I created within this look really helps to effectively represent the ideas, and feelings of distortion. Using graphic black liner, filled with brighter colours, also helped to build a dramatic effect, by crating a contrast. I succeeded in creating a natural, no makeup-makeup, editorial inspired base, and lightening the eyebrows really helped to accentuate the overly exaggerated facial features. I also believe adding the false lashes helped to really elevate the overall finish of this look.

Hair

As outlined in my design, I created a slicked back ponytail for this makeup look. This was created to keep the viewers focus on the face itself, building on the idea that those who suffer from this condition can often only focus on one imperfection, ignoring all of the greater qualities they have. This hairstyle also represents the beauty editorial makeup that inspired my work.

Costume

As previously mentioned, I no longer has access to the dress used in the first photo shoot. However,I created a dark costume, using a black top, and leather jacket, to build on the idea these conditions arr very harsh to live with. Although this does work, I do much prefer the effect that was created with the dress.

Photography

Although this time I did not have access to the same props as before, making it difficult for me to create the desired effect, I feel the images of my model looking in to the mirror are still very effective. Also, shooting this outdoors, having the nature in the background, helps build on the idea that you are beautiful in your natural state, and should not feel the need to change for anybody.

Overall, I am happy with this outcome, but at the moment am unsure weather I will use it in the final image series, or cut it down to just three images.
