Fantasy

In both film and photographic work, fantasy is probably the genre that is most associated with using bald cap application.  From future – post apocalyptic worlds, to aliens and sea creatures, bald caps are applied to create huge variety of looks that fall under this genre.

Below are some examples of previous fantasy works that have, or may have been created using a bald cap application.

Harry Potter – Lord Voldemort

To create this snake – human hybrid character, a bald cap may have been used to remove the visual appearance of hair, and alter the shape of the head. A bald cap may have also been used to cover the eyebrows.

Planet of the Apes

In the Planet of the Apes movies, bald caps may have been used to alter the shape of one’s head, or remove the appearance of the natural hair before prosthetic application.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Nebula

To create Nebula, a bald cap may have been used to remove the visual appearance of the actress’ hair.

The Mask

In the mask, a bald cap may have been applied to remove any visual appearance of hair, and alter the shape of the head.

Hell Boy – Abe Sapien

When creating Abe Sapien, a bald cap may have been used to cover the hair.

The shape of water – The Amphibian Man

In the shape of water, a bald cap may have been used to cover the hair and alter the head shape before prosthetic application.

Pan’s Labyrinth – The Pale Man

The pale man is best known for his bald head and empty face. A bald cap may have been used to remove the hair and eyebrows when creating this character.

X-Men – Mystique

For Mystique, a bald cap may have been applied to cover the actress’ natural hair before prosthetic application. The bald cap may also have been used to alter the head shape.

Mad Max – Imperator Furiosa

For an actress with long hair, a bald cap may have been used to cover the hair before prosthetic/postiche application, or the application of illusion makeup. 

Mad Max – Nux

To create Nux, a bald cap may have been used to cover an actor’s natural hair.

Mad Max – Slit

When creating slits, bald caps may have been used to cover the hair, and alter the shape of the head.

Star Wars – Darth Maul

Bald caps may have been applied to change the head shape and remove the hair before prosthetic application, when creating Darth Maul.

Death Race – Frankenstein

In Death race, a bald cap may have been applied before costume and prosthetic’s , to hide the actors natural hair, and alter the face shape to ensure the mask fits perfectly.

The Witches

In the Witches, bald caps may have been applied to hide the natural hair (under wigs), to create the illusion of a bald head.
